India lost more electricity in T&D and other losses in FY 2023-24 than generated through renewable sources

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 (𝗧&𝗗 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀) are t𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺

T&D losses significantly impact  electricity prices, the economy and the environment, by increasing operational cost for utilities, reducing power supply reliability, and increasing GHG emissions

👉 India accounted for 17.63% of electricity in T&D and other losses (transformation, transmission and distribution system and electricity unaccounted for) in FY 2023-24, a decrease from 20.66% in FY 2018-19.
👉 In absolute terms the losses increased to 289 BU in FY 2023-24 from 270 BU in FY 2018-19.
👉 This is 25% more electricity than India generated through renewable sources in 2023-24
