Countries have different carbon-free energy (CFE) sources. This analysis looks at the contribution of nuclear in the share of primary energy consumption among the top 12 energy-consuming countries. 

How to read the chart?

The bubble chart shows total energy consumption (y-axis) and share of CFE in total energy consumption (x-axis), while bubble size reflects the share of nuclear.

Above 10% Share

South Korea lead the pack with 12.8% share

Between 5% and 10% Share

USA, Russia and Canada with 7.6%, 5.8% and 5.4%, respectively

0% Share

Germany and Saudi Arabia

▶️ India‘s share is at 1.2%.

▶️ France remains the undisputed leader beyond the top 10 energy-consuming countries with a 37.4% share of nuclear in total energy consumption. 

▶️ France is followed closely by Slovakia, Finland, Ukraine and Sweden, all above 20% share of nuclear in total energy consumption. 

▶️ Germany completed its nuclear phase-out by shutting down its last three remaining reactors by April 15, 2023, marking the end of its nuclear energy program.
