Industry remain highest electricity consumer, followed by Domestic, Agriculture and commercial in India
Industry is the highest electricity consumer with a 41.6% share, followed by domestic at 24%, agriculture at 17.9%, and commercial at 8.3% in FY 2023-24.
✅ The difference in percentage growth for all categories of users does not show major variations. It more or less swings between 1-2 percentage points.
✅ Energy consumption in all the sectors is growing at more or less a similar pace, with a CAGR of 5.1%-5.6% between FY 2017-18 and 2023-24.
✅ The annual growth rate shows variations. There was negative growth for commercial and industrial consumption during 2020-21 due to COVID 19.
✅ Domestic consumption grew because of the shift of consumption from commercial to domestic, largely due to working from home during COVID 19 in 2020-21.
