Conventional Power Capacity Addition was just met once in the history of Independent India
India just met and exceeded the capacity addition target once in the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17)ย
๐ฅย The last five years have been brutal when capacity addition has not even crossed 50% of the target.
๐ฅย 2022-23 and 2024-25 have seen the lowest percentage capacity additions ever, with 17.9% and 23.5%, respectively.ย

ย But 2025-26 may be different, with 40 percent capacity already achieved at the end of October 2025.

The target for 2025-26 is 20965 MW. By the end of October 2025, 8380 MW had been achieved. This includes 5060 MW thermal, 2620 MW hydro, and 700 MW nuclear.ย
